How Fitness Model Whitney Johns Overcame Anxiety and Depression

Fitness model and coach Whitney Johns started getting migraines when she was a child. She recalls those debilitating migraines from the couch, where she’d spend eight hours with a cold pack pressed against her forehead. Her migraines caused only a sliver of her pain, because Johns suffered from anxiety, depression, stress, and ADD too.

Johns took medications to manage symptoms, but struggled with their side effects. “I just felt so fragile all the time…I was tired of feeling like I was this old woman in this young girl’s body that wasn’t able to do all the things I wanted to do,” says Johns.

When Johns reached her lowest, she decided to take her health into her own hands. First, she began with small changes to her diet. She credits those preliminary dietary changes as the crucial impetus to then mix up her entire approach to fitness too.

Quickly, Johns found her own footing. She woke to a whole new world, realizing she hadn’t had a migraine in three days or a panic attack in two weeks. Her productivity and clarity soared. She found the foundations of a lifestyle that truly served her. Johns acknowledges that the magic happens when your mental, spiritual, and physical health are in sync. “That’s when you find the best version of yourself.”
